Mile End is comfortably located midway between the affluent terraces and elegant parks of Victorian Hackney to the north and the ultra-modern developments that stretch along the Thames down by Canary Wharf to the south. Its lively crowds of students and young professionals who want access to all areas of the Capital rely on superfast links into the centre via its excellent tube connections, the Central Line and Hammersmith and City and many buses. Look west up the Mile End Road and see if you can guess which of the City’s quirky new skyscrapers are “The Cheesegrater” and “The Walkie Talkie”.
Turn east and you’re looking towards one of London’s biggest and newest retail parks at Stratford City, home of the Olympic Stadium and only one stop away by tube. Foodies have plenty to choose from locally, including Scandinavian with a contemporary twist at Ink, kangaroo burgers at The Greedy Cow and traditional British plus vegetarian at The Coborn. Drinking out is just as experimental in flavour with the East London Liquor Company offering a vast array of flavoured gins, and cask ales and craft beers on offer at The Victoria (which offers a reconditioned VW Camper Van for a retro snuggle on summer evenings).
